What’s New on Edisto?

New Fishing Pier to Be Built on Edisto Beach!

The new fishing pier will have a 22' x 684' walkway and a 85' x 85' diamond-shaped pierhead with a second story 36' x 36' observation deck, as shown above.  It will be built at the Pavilion, adjacent to the Edisto Beach State Park, and will be available for public recreational use.

Botany Bay Plantation to Open to the Public!

The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources is taking over Botany Bay Plantation to protect it as a wildlife preserve.  This 4,800 acre plantation at the eastern end of Edisto Island is one of the most beautiful places in the low country.  Many outstanding recreational opportunities here will be opening to the public very soon.

Town of Edisto Beach Converting Bell Buoy to Public Park

See architect's concept of the Bell Buoy Park

The Town of Edisto Beach bought the Bell Buoy property on Big Bay Creek to preserve as a community park.  The park is now in the design stages, but will be an authentic attraction for Edisto visitors to learn about the shrimping industry and have increased public access to Big Bay Creek.  Plans include a restored shrimp boat display, a new boat dock, a fishing and crabbing dock, canoe and kayak docks, a widened public boat ramp, an observation tower, an open air market, and an outdoor amphitheater all for public recreational use.

Beach Renourishment

Big improvements have happened on Edisto Beach! The $8 million beach renourishment project has created a 100-125 foot wide beach from the northern edge of the Edisto Beach State Park to the last groin on St. Helena Sound. Edisto Beach is now looking its best. Click here to see more pictures of the action.
